I am working on a book of poetry entitled "God Cried Today." It is based on my experiences and thoughts of Inner-City ministry.

God Cried Today

God cried today,
When He saw the young girl working the street corner
When He watched the junkie plunge the needle into his vein
When He saw the person living in an alley, their home a cardboard box.

God cried today,
As tears flowed into the gutter and
As His anger thundered and echoed from the concrete canyons
of this empty land.

God cried today,
At a mind confused and torn by delusions,
As a woman sitting alone in a hotel room, and crying out in her lonliness, decides to end her pain.

God cried today,
When He saw His people turn away
And pretend that the girl was not on that corner,
Or that there was no junkie,
And certainly no one lives in a box by choice.

Another suicide downtown?
What a pity.

God cried today.
